A POPULAR sports commentator has revealed he is going to “disappear” after 15 years on TV.

Hamish McLachlan has been a star on Australia’s Channel 7 working on the broadcaster’s all-round sports coverage since 2008.

The Australian TV host is moving to Europe in the new year along with his family.

He is hoping to spend the year “immersed” in his family life.

The 48-year-old’s decision has been made easier as Chanel 7 missed out on the rights to show the Olympics in Paris.

Therefore he is planning to “disappear” with his family before his three children Milla, 11, Indi, 9, and Lexi, 7, start high school.

McLachlan told SEN: “I’m going to disappear in December.

“You know my two girls and boy. Milla is going into her last year of primary school, and I spoke to a few people recently and they said their biggest regret is not having a year where they actually just sort of immersed themselves in the family.

“So, I got lucky on a couple of things, and not really that lucky that Nine took the Olympics, which means it’s sort of slightly an open year next year.

“So I’m going to go and disappear in December.”

McLachlan will be joined by wife Sophie as they move to Switzerland before a trip to France.

However during the trip, McLachlan has bookmarked a couple of weeks to go surfing.

He added: “We’re going to go and have five months in Switzerland and the kids will go to a local school there.

“Then I’m going to have a surf with a mate for two weeks — he runs a surf travel company. And then we’re going to go to France, to Mougins.

“It’s a tiny little town. (The kids are) going to go to a local school there for seven months.

“And then when we get back I’ve got a kid in secondary school until 2034. So, it’s the only year I could really go.”
