CHELTENHAM racegoers can “celebrate” after bosses opted to freeze the price of Guinness — at £7.50 a pint.

Punters are expected to down 220,000 of the stouts during the four days of the racing festival, spending £1.65million in all.

The black stuff is the drink of choice as the meeting attracts a massive Irish contingent.

It will be served across 900 yards of temporary bar counters, along with an expected 100,000 pints of lager.

There will also be self-serve pumps for both at the national hunt hot spot in Gloucestershire.

The Jockey Club, which owns the course, said today it had held prices of Guinness at the same level since October 2022.

A spokesman explained the decision has been taken “despite being exposed to ongoing and significant increases to the costs of goods and services”.

Race bosses have also built a pub, The Mandarin, on the course.

Outside the days of the festival, a three-course lunch there is £85 per head.

During the extravaganza, however, it shoots up to £375, although entrance to the course and an afternoon tea is included.

In an apparent bid to lure younger punters, Irish model and DJ Vogue Williams is booked to perform a set at the Centaur enclosure on day two of the meet, which starts on Tuesday.
