NAAS racecourse is offering free entry to everyone on Friday – after its brilliant Sunday card had to be abandoned.
The action was scrapped after just one race yesterday with a thick layer of fog covering the Irish track.
Jockey Daryl Jacob, who won on Night And Day, said he lost his bearings on the Naas track amid the thick blanket of fog[/caption]It meant punters missed out on seeing – literally – a host of potential superstars in the spectacular Grade 1 hurdle Lawlor’s of Naas.
But the good news is that the meeting has been rearranged for this Friday.
And the racecourse is offering free entry to punters, while reimbursing those whose day was cut short on Sunday.
The Lawlor’s looks like being a key trial for the 2m5f Ballymore race at March’s Cheltenham Festival.
A whole host of top talent was set to take part, with horses trained by Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott leading the market.
The money poured in for Ile Atlantique after Mullins’ No1 jockey Paul Townend took the ride.
His main market rival was Elliott’s Firefox, who was partnered with Jack Kennedy.
Firefox is 7-1 second-fav for the Ballymore while Ile Atlantique is third-fav at 10-1.
Mullins also has the 4-1 Ballymore fav Ballyburn among his awe-inspiring squad back at his Closutton base.
Also among the Lawlor’s runners set to star are the likes of Henry de Bromhead’s An Tobar, who was backed heavily before the race was abandoned.
Mystical Power, Chapeau De Soleil, Lecky Watson, Readin Tommy Wrong and Croke Park were also among the intended runners.
Naas was abandoned on Sunday after one race – in which Mullins’ mare Brandy Love was turned over at 1-4 by his other runner, Night And Day.
