Ralph Beckett star Bluestocking set to be supplemented for Arc de Triomphe for a whopping fee

BLUESTOCKING is set to be supplemented for the Arc de Triomphe next week for a whopping fee.

Ralph Beckett’s top-notcher put herself in the frame for the big race on October 6 with a gutsy Group 1 win at Longchamp 10 days ago.

Bluestocking has been one of the stars of the Flat season[/caption]

She was slashed into 10s from 25-1 for the Arc with Coral after gamely giving weight and a beating to a classy French three-year-old in the Prix Vermeille.

And in a wide-open looking year, Beckett and owners Juddmonte will get another crack at the big’un after Westover’s agonising second to Ace Impact last season.

It’s not a decision that has been taken lightly, as it will cost an eye-watering £100,000 to add her to the race and there is a likely easier target at Ascot a fortnight later.

Juddmonte’s racing manager Barry Mahon said: “The plan is to give her a piece of work on Saturday and, so long as Ralph is happy with her and there isn’t any freakishly warm weather forecast in Paris, she’ll be supplemented next week.

“The original target was to go for the mare’s race on Champions Day, but I think she has now earned the right to have a go at the Arc.

“She was impressive in the Vermeille at Longchamp, she seemed to like the place and the owners are very keen to give it a go, so it is very exciting.

“She likes a bit of juice in the ground and more often than not you get that at Longchamp at this time of year. Hopefully that is the case on Sunday week.”

Outside of Bluestocking, there looks to be very little British interest in the Arc de Triomphe this year.

The market is headed by Andre Fabre’s exciting colt Sosie, who beat the French Derby winner Look De Vega in the Prix Niel last time out.

He heads the betting at 4-1, while Japanese star Shin Emperor is a 7-1 shot, just ahead of Aidan O’Brien’s Los Angeles (8-1).

Confirmations for the Arc will be made on Monday, with final declarations and supplementary entries to be made by October 2.
