Premier League table-toppers Liverpool visit the Red Bull Arena for Wednesday’s Champions League clash with RB Leipzig.

It was an excellent start to a marathon of difficult fixtures for Arne Slot’s side, who passed their stiffest test under his leadership with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Chelsea on Sunday.

Over the next five weeks the Reds will face the likes of Arsenal, Brighton, Aston Villa, Bayer Leverkusen, Real Madrid and Manchester City.

And they’ll be eager to keep that momentum going having put together an impressive seven-game winning streak.

Liverpool boast a perfect start in the Champions League having overcome AC Milan at the San Siro before clinching a 2-0 win against Bologna.

And there’s good reason to think they’ll maintain that 100% record.

The Reds have won nine of their last 11 Champions League away fixtures, and have won seven out of 10 UCL meetings with German opposition, keeping six clean sheets.

It’s been a similar story for RB Leipzig on the domestic front. They remain unbeaten in the Bundesliga having collected five wins and two draws from their opening seven fixtures – conceding just twice!

However, it’s not been great on the European front.

RB Leipzig have lost both their games in the Champions League to Atletico Madrid and Juventus this season despite scoring the opening goal in both, no side in the history of the European Cup/UEFA Champions League has done so in three consecutive games before.

There’s a chance I’ll have egg on my face after this prediction, but I see few goals being scored in Wednesday’s encounter between RB Leipzig and Liverpool.

As mentioned above, both have been in excellent form – especially on home turf. The German hosts have only conceded twice in seven league matches this season, and have three clean sheets from three at the Red Bull Arena.

Meanwhile Liverpool haven’t been blasting teams away recently. In fact they’ve only won one of their last four by a two-goal margin. They also boast two clean sheets in their last three and six this season.

First goalscorer

Mohamed Salah got his name back on the scoresheet against Chelsea over the weekend, albeit from the penalty spot.

The Egyptian attacker, 32, now has seven goals and six assists in 11 appearances this season with one of each coming against Bologna in their last Champions League contest.

Salah has been involved in 12 goals in his previous nine appearances for Liverpool in the Champions League and he’s also netted in BOTH of his two fixtures against RB Leipzig – both times as the first goalscorer.
