RBC Canadian Open 2025 betting tips, free bets and latest golf odds

It is over to you again Rory at this week’s Canadian Open, after Scottie Scheffler matched McIlroy’s haul of three wins this year with a successful defence of his Memorial title.

Scheffler will be putting his feet up at home in Texas ahead of next week’s US Open, while world No 2 McIlroy aims to win in Canada for the third time, after victories in 2019 and 2022.

With the surprisingly inconsistent Ludvig Aberg as the only other player from the top ten in action, McIlroy is a strong favourite at 9-2 to complete the hat-trick, with the Swede next best at 14-1.

RBC Canadian Open betting tips

Aberg was fancied to make some noise at the Memorial. But he was pretty quiet until closing with a bogey-free 66, and that was still only good enough for a share of 16th.

So despite an aversion to single figure odds, McIlroy looks the better option at the top of the market – at least until Aberg starts to reproduce the sort of golf he showed us as a rookie this time last year.

This year’s Canadian Open moves to a new venue, at TPC Toronto, a tough par 70 with narrow fairways and thick rough – a taste of what awaits at Oakmont next week, where the US Open is likely to be a battle for survival.

The twenty-odd Canadians in the field will not have much of an advantage over the rest in terms of course knowledge. But I still like the chances of Taylor Pendrith, who hails from the Greater Toronto area.

Pendrith won twice on the PGA Tour Canada before making his breakthrough in the big time by winning the Byron Nelson last year.

His fifth place finish at the USPGA showed he is still heading in the right direction, and he was only a shot away from rewarding each way support at the Memorial last week. At a best-priced 28-1, he looks worth backing each way again.

Defending champion Robert MacIntyre is also priced up at 28-1. Even on a different course, the Scottish left-hander can still  make his presence felt.

Shane Lowry will be on many short lists. But 20-1 does not seem over-generous for a player who has not won an individual title since the 2022 BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

I would rather go with players at longer odds, and Keith Mitchell – a recent runner-up at the Corales – fits the bill at a widely-available 45-1.

The 50-1 on offer for Alex Noren to build on the promise of his USPGA exploits also catches the eye. And after justifying each way support yet again when he was tied sixth at the Charles Schwab, 80-1 shot Ryo Hisatsune merits another small investment.

Another exciting young Japanese player, Keita Nakajima, bounced back from a  couple of missed cuts with a share of 11th in Austria last week.

His back-to-back runner-up finishes in Singapore and India earlier this season may have come closer to home, but at 28-1 he still catches the eye in the KLM Open market.

This Open is wide open, but it is still a surprise to see defending champion Guido Miggliozi as high as 66-1.

The Italian star is not the most consistent performer. But he is also a former French Open winner, and even a repeat of the form he showed when he finished eight in Dubai at the start of the year would make him  hard to beat again here.

Sam Bairstow continued his good run by qualifying for next week’s US Open, and his 28-1 quote this week looks fair.

And after a much-improved effort to claim a share of fifth in Austria, fellow Englishman Callum Tarren deserves a second look at 150-1.
