HENRI LANSBURY has revealed that he was diagnosed with testicular cancer during his time at Nottingham Forest.
The 33-year-old, who retired this summer, has opened up about finding out he had the awful disease back in 2016.
PA:Empics SportSpeaking to Sky Sports, Lansbury explained how he initially tried to deal with the diagnosis on his own.
He said: “It was eating away at me for a few months – having it and not telling anyone and just trying to deal with it myself.
“And it came to the point where I thought I had to see someone and have someone help me out.”
The Arsenal youth product was with Forest at the time of the issues and ultimately had to lean on the club for help with his health.
He explained: “At first I just went down to my local hospital to see if I could get checked out, but they said that the lead time was a few weeks.
“So I had to phone the club and ask for help and they put me in contact with someone to go and get it checked out.
“I had a scan there and he [the doctor] said: ‘alright we will give you the results back in a bit.’
“And as I left to get in my car the doctor from Nottingham Forest has called me and asked me to pack a bag to go back in for an operation that night.”

Lansbury continued to play following his treatment and had spells at Aston Villa and Bristol City before calling time on his career at Luton Town.
And now the former midfielder has turned to a life away from the bright lights as the owner of a grass fertiliser company.
His brand “Grass Gains” has already worked on top level football pitches including Fulham and Belgian side Genk.
