Ronnie O’Sullivan rapped ‘I don’t want to talk about it’ after loss to snooker ace who splashed his winnings on Ferrari

RONNIE O’SULLIVAN rapped “I don’t want to talk about it” after his World Snooker Championship defeat to Luca Brecel last year.

The Rocket, 48, fell to Belgian Brecel 13-10 in the quarter-finals at The Crucible.

Seven-time world champion O’Sullivan lost seven frames in a row during his defeat.

Speaking to Metro, John Virgo lifted the lid on O’Sullivan’s response to that defeat.

The 78-year-old said: “Funnily enough he came over to see me in the summer and I asked him what happened against Luca Brecel in that match.

“He said, ‘I don’t want to talk about it!’ So it still wrangles with him.

“For the greatest player we’ve ever seen to play seven frames and not make a 30 break, nobody could have foreseen that.

“He is human like the rest of us, but it was hard to believe. I can only assume it was the pressure of the tournament. Maybe he was looking too far ahead, who knows.

“But he can’t afford bad sessions like that because the competition is there. If you have a bad session you’re going to get walloped, so to speak, which is what he did.”

Brecel, 29, went on to win the tournament – beating Mark Selby 18-15 in the final.

He pocketed £500,000 for his efforts, and went on to spend half of it on a £250k Ferrari.

Last November, Brecel revealed that he was no longer a millionaire after spending a fortune on a fleet of supercars, including a Ferrari, Range Rover and Porsche.

He said: “I bought two more cars this week, so I went from a millionaire to a non-millionaire.

“It was a conscious decision to buy the cars and maybe feel that bit of pressure again, to recreate the feeling I had of just starting my career.”

Brecel is set to defend his world title when action gets underway at The Crucible next week.

He will go into the event as the top seed, with O’Sullivan at the bottom of the draw at No2.

This means that the duo cannot meet again until the final.
