RORY MCILROY has quit the PGA Tour Board just one day after its quarterly meeting.
The golf star has put his decision down to “professional and personal commitments’.
GettyMcIlroy, 34, has been among the most vocal critics of the LIV Golf Tour.
His resignation comes as the PGA attempt to finalise a deal with the Saudi Public Investment Fund.
The Northern Irishman is currently in Dubai at the DP World Tour Championship.
He did not mention his intention to resign from the PGA Tour Board during his press conference on Tuesday.
But when asked if he enjoyed having a seat at the table, he revealingly admitted: “Not particularly, no. Not what I signed for whenever I went on the board.
“But yeah, the game of professional golf has been in flux for the last two years.”
An agreement was reached by the PGA to merge with the Saudi-backed LIV Tour back in June.
The two parties set an end of year deadline to finalise the deal, but this can be extended.

McIlroy previously slammed players joining LIV as “taking the easy way out”.
While he has also frequently criticised LIV CEO Greg Norman.
Following McIlroy’s sudden resignation after three years on the board, PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan and board chairman Ed Herlihy released a joint statement.
It read: “Rory’s insight has been instrumental in helping shape the success of the tour, and his willingness to thoughtfully voice his opinions has been especially impactful.
“Given the extraordinary time and effort that Rory – and all of his fellow player directors – have invested in the tour during this unprecedented, transformational period in our history, we certainly understand and respect his decision to step down in order to focus on his game and his family.”
