Roy Hodgson fighting to save Crystal Palace job with axed Premier League boss wanted as immediate replacement

ROY HODGSON is under increasing pressure at Crystal Palace with some at the club feeling Saturday’s clash with Brentford could be his last chance.

Frustration is growing after a run of eight games without a win has left Palace just three points above the relegation zone.

During that run Hodgson’s squad has been hard-hit by injury while they ran Liverpool close and came from two goals down to draw at champions Manchester City.

Steve Cooper is the favourite to replace the veteran boss should a change be made at Selhurst Park and it has been revealed the Eagles would not have to pay compensation to Nottingham Forest after they sacked the Welshman.

However, there is a split between senior figures at Palace over who would be the ideal replacement for Hodgson, 76, with former Eintracht Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner, who won the Europa League with the German club, also well-liked.

Ex-Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui has been spotted at Selhurst Park in recent months, attending the defeat to Tottenham.

Hodgson is under contract until the summer at the south London club he returned to after the sacking of Patrick Vieira last season.

The original plan was for the former England boss to guide the Eagles to the end of the season before a younger new manager was brought in.

Hodgson’s recent run of apologies for post-match comments have also ruffled feathers in the boardroom.

Cooper was axed after Forest’s defeat to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.

He has also been linked with the job at West Ham with the club looking for potential replacements should David Moyes leave the club at the end of the season.

Glasner has also had Premier League interest in the past with Tottenham and Nottingham Forest both tipped with moves in the last 12 months.
