Roy Keane’s scathing Liverpool prediction under Jurgen Klopp resurfaces and it’s completely backfired on Man Utd legend

A DAMNING prediction from Roy Keane regarding Liverpool not winning “any big prizes” under Jurgen Klopp has resurfaced – and it has aged dreadfully.

The 56-year-old dropped a bombshell on Friday when the German announced that he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.

The German informed club chiefs of his decision to step down last NOVEMBER but his players only learned of his exit on Friday ahead of making the announcement public via the club’s social media channels.

The emotional Anfield crowd began their long farewell on Sunday as Liverpool thumped Norwich 5-2 to advance to the FA Cup fifth round.

That kept their pursuit of a quadruple alive, having already set-up a Carabao Cup final date with Chelsea, reaching the knockouts of the Europa League and currently sitting five points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Klopp took charge in October 2015 and has won all of the game’s top honours since, transforming Liverpool back into one of Europe’s most feared outfits. 

He will forever be a legend after ending their 30-year title drought and he also led the Reds to three Champions League finals – tasting success in the 2019 edition.

But it took several years for him to enjoy that success, and he and the Reds had to endure numerous setbacks along the way.

Klopp was especially criticised for his inability to build a defence, with United icon Keane one of those to criticise him and claim that the job was too big for the ex-Dortmund man.

His comments came while he was working for a pundit on ITV as Liverpool threw away a two-goal lead thanks to a pair of defensive errors to draw with Sevilla in the Champions League back in 2017.

Irishman Keane said: “This sums up Liverpool in a nutshell and why they’re not going to win any big prizes.

“Just switching off from a throw-in leads to the equaliser. In such an important game, at such an important moment.

“Experienced players just switching off. It must drive the manager crazy as it’s just schoolboy defending.

“It’s the easiest part of football, just switching on. Liverpool did all the hard stuff well in terms of creating chances, pace, power and quality going forward, but Liverpool can’t seem to do the easy things.”

Keane added: “Liverpool can forget about winning the Champions League.

“I mean, they should have enough to get through the group, but in the knockout stages against the Real Madrids and all these boys, they’ll be laughing at Liverpool.”

However – just two years later Klopp had led the Reds to Champions League glory.

And, within 12 months of that, he was also celebrating the club’s first domestic league title since 1990.
