Roy Keane tells Micah Richards to calm down on live TV after furious rant about Man City and Pep Guardiola

ROY KEANE was forced to pull rank on live TV after Micah Richards launched into a passionate rant about Manchester City’s rivalry with Liverpool.

Ahead of Liverpool‘s crunch title showdown with Man City at Anfield, former City star Richards was appearing on Sky Sports alongside Daniel Sturridge and Roy Keane.

Presenter Dave Jones asked Richards for his opinion on comments made by Trent Alexander-Arnold in the build-up to the game that suggested trophies meant more to the Reds than City.

The England international had said: “Looking back on this era, although they’ve won more titles than us and have probably been more successful, our trophies will mean more to us and our fanbase because of the situations at both clubs, financially.

“How both clubs have built their teams and the manner in which we’ve done it, probably means more to our fans.”

Richards, 35, said he enjoyed seeing the players give some bite, before arguing the case in his old teams favour.

Getting more animated as he spoke, he said: “I loved it. How many times do we see people talk about ‘they’ve got no personality, they’re just like robots‘.

“Obviously I don’t agree with that (Alexander-Arnold’s title claim) but it’s his opinion. There’s nothing wrong with his opinion.

“People always go on like Man City were created in 2008 when they got the investment. But Man City were getting 20-30,000 in the lower leagues.

“They come from good stock and now they’ve started to win things everyone wants to lump in.

“Yes they have spent a lot of money but they’ve got a great manager, great players, they’ve won the Treble, they’ve won the league multiple times.”

Keane and Sturridge then intervened, with former Manchester United captain Keane waving him arm in a calm down gesture.

Richards then continued: “Alisson was £75million and so was [Virgil] Van Dijk. Look at the starting point where Liverpool was to where Man City were starting.

“Liverpool had been winning European Cups for years and years and years. Anfield, we talk about it so much because of their pedigree.

“I have no problem with what Trent said. But obviously from [Phil] Foden’s point of view of coming through the academy, winning the Treble, winning the league, he will have his view.

“[Erling] Haaland will have his view as well. I don’t mind it. I think it’s good for the league.”

Following Alexander-Arnold’s comments, Haaland had hit back saying: “If he wants to say that, okay. I’ve been here one year and I’ve won the Treble.

“It was quite a nice feeling. I don’t think he knows exactly this feeling. That’s what I felt last season and it was quite nice.”
