The Huddersfield Giants star will face court on May 16 following the alleged incident.

The 20-year-old’s club has suspended him as he awaits his appearance.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said the ex-Bradford player was arrested in his native Saddleworth in the early hours of Good Friday.

GMP’s Oldham Division said: “Fenton Roger, of Oldham, has been charged with drink driving and has been bailed in relation to an assault of an emergency worker.

“The 20-year-old has been bailed ahead of scheduled appearance at Tameside Magistrates Court on May 16.”

Huddersfield Giants added: “The club was made aware by Fenton Rogers of an incident the previous day which led to him being detained for questioning by the police.

“The club has suspended him with immediate effect pending the outcome of their own investigation.

“No further comment will be made at this stage.”

It came just hours after coach Ian Watson said he would be in his squad for Sunday’s trip to London Broncos.

Rogers played three games on loan with Super League‘s bottom club before returning to the Giants.

After the loan spell earlier this season, Watson said: “He’s got a better picture and better understanding of where he’s at now.

“The big thing was his development and how he develops.”

He made his Super League debut for Huddersfield against Wigan Warriors last June.
