Ryan Reynolds frustrated in bid for new Wrexham training ground as Hollywood star complains of needing ‘800 permits’

RYAN REYNOLDS is banking on red tape not halting his ambitious plans to deliver his plush new training ground at Wrexham.

Reynolds and fellow Hollywood co-owner Rob McElhenney plan to continue their huge investment in the League Two club’s future by funding new state-of-the-art facilities in North Wales.

Reynolds and McElhenney have already given the Racecourse Ground, known as the STōK Cae Ras this season, a major facelift.

That upgrade helped bring Rob Page’s Wales back to the oldest international football venue in the world earlier this season.

Wrexham currently train at Colliers Park but bankrolling the infrastructure behind the scenes is proving slow going for Reynolds.

Reynolds, speaking to the Yours Mine Away podcast, said: “We need a training ground badly. There’s a bunch of different options we are looking at.

“But it’s not just huge for the club but huge for everybody. We want that to be experienced by everyone living in Wrexham as well.

“There’s a lot of careful planning going into it – but like when I grew up in Canada – there’s a lot of bureaucracy.

“It’s not so easy to say let’s build this thing or grow this thing. You have to get 800 permits before you are allowed.”

Promotion favourites Wrexham have dropped out of the automatic promotion places and now have lost three games in all competitions under Red Dragons boss Phil Parkinson.

Reynolds added: “Promotion last season was like a soul had left our body.

“I’ve not felt anything like that. I don’t count any chickens until they are hatched.

“But Phil has made the club so resilient. Every player here is going into battle and give their last drop of blood to win for the town.

“And Rob and myself feel the same way and we have to reciprocate that gesture and give our last drop of blood to see this club move forward in every way.”
