BRENTFORD are closing in on a loan move for Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon.
The Spaniard, 27, had initially been hesitant over a switch to the Gtech and was hoping for a move back to Spain.
GettyThat was after representing some of Europe’s elite clubs in Real Madrid, Spurs, Atletico Madrid and Manchester United, where he spent the first half of the season on loan.
But Reguilon appears to have since been convinced of a move to West London, where he should get regular game-time given Rico Henry‘s absence through injury.
Reguilon returned from Old Trafford earlier this month having made 12 appearances while Luke Shaw was out injured.
But he is not in Ange Postecoglou‘s plans – behind Destiny Udogie in the pecking order – so will be allowed to go out temporarily again, with Thomas Frank‘s Bees his expected destination.
Brentford have made bringing in reinforcements a priority in January with six first-team players sidelined through injury.
In addition to their injuries, they have Yoanne Wissa, Frank Onyeka and Saman Ghoddos all away representing their countries at the Africa Cup of Nations.
But in a boost for Thomas Frank’s men, Ivan Toney is set to be available this weekend after serving his betting ban.
The striker has been linked with a move away from the Gtech this window but Frank says his focus is only on getting the striker up and running for the Bees again.

On Toney’s imminent return he said: “It’ll be great to get him involved. I think it’s very clear, I don’t want to let him go.
“I want to keep him as long as possible and I only have that in mind. My only focus is getting him ready for Nottingham Forest.”
Brentford travel to Wolves on Tuesday night for their FA Cup third round replay.
