Serbia needed to beat Denmark to keep their hopes alive, but played out a 0-0 draw which left them rock bottom of Group C.

However, the clash was marred by violent clashes between hooligans and German police.

Footage shared online appeared to show a mass confrontation in Munich’s central Marienplatz.

Police were seen rushing into a crowd of people before they were pelted by a series of projectiles, including bottles and chairs.

Reports say that at least ten people, including nine police officers, were injured in the clashes.

Officers were searching for a fan under suspicion of having fired off pyrotechnics at around 5pm on Tuesday with more than 5,000 Serbia fans in the square.

Police said a routine check caused a “solidarity effect” from the crowd, before officers deployed pepper spray and used batons.

A spokesperson was unable to confirm whether any fans had been injured during the clashes, but said a steward had also been injured in the incident.

Serbia supporters had also allegedly been chanting “Vladimir Putin” while in the square.

Footage of similar chanting had previously emerged following their opening match against England.

Violent clashes between Serbia and England fans had been seen in Gelsenkirchen before the two nations faced each other, leading to eight arrests.
