SIR ALEX FERGUSON has revealed the two players who are currently representing “the heart and soul” of Manchester United.

The Premier League giants have been in a seemingly never-ending state of flux since Fergie ended his reign as manager in May 2013.

Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho have been two shining lights for the club as of late[/caption]

A positive for Red Devils fans, as of late, has been the graduation of some of their academy stars into the first team.

The most recent success story has been that of 19-year-old Kobbie Mainoo, whose ascension into the starting XI bagged him a spot in England‘s squad for Euro 2024.

Alejandro Garnacho has also enjoyed similar success with Argentina following his first-team debut a little over two years ago.

And Fergie is delighted to see the club is sticking with its long tradition of giving youngsters the chance to shine.

Asked about Mainoo and Garnacho, Fergie told Jamal Niaz: ‘It’s the foundation isn’t it?

“It’s the heart and soul of what Manchester United has been since the days of Sir Matt Busby, who started the whole process of trusting young players playing.

“They’re young. What they’re showing at the moment, the composure and confidence to play in the first-team, and not be daunted by it.

“In a way, it shows you the kind of courage they have.

“It’s a distinction in human beings, some have the will to be that [fearless at a young age].”

Mainoo, in particular, showed composure well beyond his years after being thrown into the deep end by former Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate at Euro 2024.

He made six appearances in the tournament, starting four of the nation’s final four matches of the tournament.

Unted boss Erik ten Hag will be hoping Mainoo replicates the form he showed at the Euros next season.

The Red Devils kick off the new Premier League season on August 16, welcoming Fulham to Old Trafford.
