SKY Sports Racing commentator Mike Cattermole apologised to confused punters after suffering a ‘medical incident’ during a race.

The respected comms man got mixed up during a rapid six-furlong sprint at Doncaster on Sunday.

He thought third-placed Aleezdancer was involved in a photo finish with winner Knebworth.

But it was actually the fast-finishing Woven who missed out by a short head in the Class 3 handicap.

Cattermole also erroneously said it was Dakota Gold, who finished second-last in 13th, that was involved in the photo.

Both Dakota Gold and Knebworth had similar yellow silks on with white sleeves but could be distinguished by their caps.

Some punters picked up the mistake, but Cattermole offered an explanation later on X.

He wrote: “Sincere apologies to those who had an interest in this terrific race. Especially to the connections of Knebworth.

“Am afraid I suffered a medical incident during the race which can happen to a Type 1 diabetic like me.

“I tried to keep my focus but couldn’t manage it. Bad timing.”

Leonna Mayor, Cattermole’s Sky colleague, was among those sending their well wishes.

She wrote ‘hope you are OK Mike’ while others said the main thing was that he now appeared to be all well and good.

There was a big delay to the racing at Newbury on Saturday when a racegoer suffered a ‘serious’ medical incident.

The action was delayed by over an hour as medical crews rushed to the scene.
