A QUESTION of Sport’s former host Willie Carson has urged the BBC to bring back the “axed” show in its old format.

Willie, 81, said the move would help the ailing former favourite “kick off again”.

Ex-jockey Willie was on the panel in 1982 and 1983 when millions tuned in each week.

Viewing figures plunged from 2020 when comic Paddy McGuinness replaced host Sue Barker and non-sports stars began appearing on the panels.

Willie insisted A Question of Sport could be revived if the changes were scrapped.

He said: “If they brought it back to the old format I guarantee it would kick off again.

“It worked for over 50 years so why try and mend something that’s not broken?

“When they decided to change it, they killed it.

“If the engine is still running, why switch it off? It was one of the best things that’s happened on television.”

The Sun last week revealed the show had been shelved, with a possible future reboot in mind.

It was felt the move would prevent an “embarrassing U-turn”.
