THE EYE-WATERING price of drinks at the Australian Open have been labelled “scandalous”.
The tennis tournament is in full swing Down Under with the third round of men’s action already underway today.
A new bar at Melbourne Park has already hit the headlines this week[/caption] Now the cost of food and drink there has been revealed[/caption]We reported yesterday how several players have complained about the distracting “party court” at the Australian Open.
That was after a two-storey bar was constructed on the eastern sideline of court six for this year’s Australian Open tournament.
Men’s No 7 seed, Stefanos Tsitsipas, is one of those stars to hit out at the boozed-up fans.
However, those indulging in the delights of the new addition and enjoying a bite to eat at Melbourne Park will have to pay a small fortune.
According to the Daily Mail, a beer in a 425mL plastic cup (schooner size) will set you back $14.50 (£7.53).
A bottle of water costs nearly as much at $5.90 (£3.07).
And if you wanted to grab something to eat then that would set you back even more.
Punters would need to cough up a whopping $18.50 (£9.61) for a chilli cheese dog.

A beef burger and chips costs $22.50 (£11.69).
And, even more staggeringly, a simple chocolate bar would set you back $6 (£3.12).
However, the real eye-opener was the cost of champagne.
A glass of bubbly is priced at $29.50 (£15.33).
But one fan who splashed out on the champers was left fuming at not only the price.
A tweet sent to champagne manufactures Piper Heidieck said: “Any chance that you could provide ice and food at the stand alone bar @AustralianOpen please?
“Scandalous that you are serving expensive champagne with iceless coolers and no snacks.”
