The Three Lions boss took off skipper Harry Kane, as well as Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden, all in one swoop.

He replaced them with Ollie Watkins, Eberechi Eze, Jarrod Bowen.

Fans were left rubbing their eyes in disbelief at the bold triple change.

One wrote on social media: “Saka, Foden and Kane all off in one go. Gareth, didn’t know you had the b******s fair credit.”

While a second gushed: “Wow. Southgate took Kane off! Never thought I’d see the day. This lineup now excites me. So much pace and flair.”

A third commented: “Gareth Southgate with the most ballsy triple substitution I’ve ever seen.”

And another added: “Fair play to Southgate for that triple substitution, very uncharacteristic but I like it.”

Kane, 30, had given England the lead on 13 minutes, converting from close range after Kyle Walker‘s cut-back.

Morten Hjulmand levelled just 16 minutes later, fizzing a shot beyond Jordan Pickford from 30 yards.

Southgate readied a substitution just eight minutes into the second-half, replacing Trent Alexander-Arnold with Conor Gallagher.

With England still underwhelming, he then made his triple change nearly 20 minutes from time.

But it was Denmark who made much of the late running, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg coming close with a shot from the edge of the box on 83 minutes.

With England wilting in Frankfurt, the match toiled to a 1-1 draw.

The Three Lions will return to action against Slovenia next Tuesday.
