And talk of former player turned plumbing millionaire Mally Walker buying the Super League club is said to be wide of the mark.

The Black and Whites are looking for a new boss after Tony Smith was sacked on Thursday, a decision some close to the veteran call “bonkers”.

Now SunSport understands they will be looking for a new star player as the Kiwi hooker is walking away.

The New Zealand and Samoa international’s short stint at Hull FC has been eventful, with his controversial sending off at Warrington for head-on-head contact forcing a rewriting of the new rule.

And after just one victory — and five straight losses in league and cup that saw them concede 220 points — insiders say the 29-year-old is ending his one-year deal early.

Reports claim Brown has been allowed to leave on compassionate grounds because a member of his family is ill.

While team-mate Tex Hoy has also left the club despite having six months remaining on his two-year contract.

Hull are at the centre of speculation over new investment coming in and chairman Adam Pearson admitted “further restructuring” would happen soon.

However, claims that Walker — who used to own the Victoria Plum brand which was sold for nearly £8million last year — is coming in have been dismissed.
