Super-stallion Frankel’s stud fee rockets to more than the cost of the average house after making £67million this year

SUPER-STALLION Frankel’s stud fee has rocketed to a world-record figure – after he raked in more than £67million this year.

The horse considered by many to be the greatest of all time will charge £350,000 a pop at stud next season – £90,000 more than the average cost of a UK house.

Frankel now shares top stud fee honours with Dubawi, another supreme sire who is owned by Sheikh Mohammed, the ruler of Dubai.

No horse in the world charges more than the two big daddies in the game.

Frankel’s big price bump from this year’s fee of £275,000 is down to the phenomenal success his kids have had on the track.

Frankel’s owners Juddmonte confirmed the £75,000 surge in his price in a statement.

It came on the back of the perfect racehorse – who won 14 of 14 races – covering a rumoured 245 mares this year.

Frankel, 15, is able to charge so much because of the success of his offspring (known as progeny) on the racecourse.

Among his winners this year were Juddmonte International and Prince of Wales’s Stakes champ Mostahdaf.

Chaldean, the 2000 Guineas hero, Oaks winner Soul Sister and Frankie Dettori’s Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf heroine Inspiral also come from Frankel.

Big spenders move quickly to buy potential superstars by Frankel too.

Two of his yearlings sold for around £2m and £1.7m at the money-spinning Tattersalls Book 1 sale last month.

While a filly at the Goffs Orby Sale in Ireland in September went for £1.6m.

Frankel’s Banstead Manor Stud stablemates will charge a pretty penny too, with Chaldean coming in at £25,000 for his first year as a stallion.

While Kingman, the 2014 European Horse of the Year, will charge £125,000.

Simon Mockridge, general manager at Juddmonte UK, said: “It has been another outstanding season for the Juddmonte stallions.

“A season which sees Frankel poised to win his second Champion Sire title in the last three years and a year where the Juddmonte roster was the leading stallion farm at Royal Ascot.”

Both still have some way to matching the late Galileo, though.

He was rumoured to be the first billion pound horse after charging £600,000 to cover a mare at his peak.
