TEAM GB sprinting star Matthew Hudson-Smith, who narrowly missed out on Olympic gold glory this week, will tie the knot with his fiancée just weeks after the Games.

He had been aiming to emulate the Chariots of Fire stardom of Eric Liddell but fell short by just 0.04 seconds in the 400m final at the Stade de France on Wednesday night.

But despite his sporting heartbreak, he will grab at least one gold ring this summer when he marries his long-term girlfriend Antonia Tyson in September.

She was in the crowd cheering him and sported a sparkling ring despite keeping their engagement on the down low.

Antonia, who works in healthcare, also shared a post on Instagram calling Hudson-Smith her “future hubby”.

They are set to wed on September 29 with a website set up for friends and family to give money to a “newly wed fund”.

The pair wrote: “We are overjoyed to have you join us on our special day! Your presence means the world to us, and your love and support are the greatest gifts of all.

“For those who may wish to contribute a little extra, we’ve put together a registry that will help us build our future together. We kindly request that any additional gifts be sent to our home address.

“Your thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated, and we can’t wait to celebrate this unforgettable day with you. With love and gratitude, Antonia & Matthew”.

On Wednesday night Hudson-Smith admitted he had no idea his friends and family were in the crowd until after he had clinched the silver medal spot.

He said after the race: “My family are here. I didn’t know they were here so that was a bit of a shock. I hate them watching me and my parents don’t really watch me because they hate watching me as much as I hate them watching so it’s crazy that they came. It’s been a hell of a journey.”
