You can pick more than one horse in a race – you just multiply the number of selections in each race to calculate your stake.

Saturday’s Doncaster Placepot picks

LEG 1: Astral Beau, Charyn 

ASTRAL BEAU was the impressive winner of this in the mud 12 months before placing in Group contests at Newmarket and Epsom. She’s best after a break and this looks no tougher than last year. 

CHARYN was third in that August Group 2 when last seen and is respected despite his layoff.

LEG 2: Mystical Elegance, Roysdelight

We know connections of MYSTICAL ELEGANCE will have her fit and ready to go after their narrow miss in this 12 months ago. She is just about the most expensive runner in the field and has an excellent pilot up in David Egan. 

ROYSDELIGHT looks to have solid each-way claims on breeding.

LEG 3: Thunder Roar, Harswell Duke

THUNDER ROAR came into his own on heavy ground last season with wins at Doncaster and York. That bodes well for liking Donny and Jamie Spencer can bring him home late off what looks a very fair handicap mark. 

HARSWELL DUKE won this last year and has taken a similar road this time. We know trip and track are ideal and he’ll like the conditions too.

LEG 4: Marshman, Baradar

MARSHMAN has won first-time out in both of his seasons and can keep that run going. He landed a Group 3 in France this time last year before holding his own in classier company. This drop to Listed level on his favourite ground will make him hard to stop. 

BARADAR won here in September before bombing out over a mile at Ascot. This trip suits much better and he looks a big threat given he’s won after a break too.

LEG 5: Chazzesmee, Blues Emperor

CHAZZESMEE can pull off the Lincoln double having won the Irish version at The Curragh on Monday. He looked classy when picking his way through the big field before winning with plenty left in the tank.

Johnny Murtagh only comes over with live chances so his Curragh and Naas winner BLUES EMPEROR is capable of going close.

LEG 6: King’s Reign, Ancient Myth

KING’S REIGN was an expensive buy who looked very green when fourth on debut at Wolverhampton. There’s a lot more to come.

ANCIENT MYTH was a promising second on his first run latest and can build on that.
