Erik ten Hag has claimed there were ‘issues’ with Jadon Sancho before he arrived[/caption]Sancho completed a loan return to Borussia Dortmund on Thursday to end his Old Trafford exile.
He had been banished from the first-team after a public falling out with Ten Hag.
The United boss has now been asked what went wrong for Sancho with the Red Devils.
Ten Hag told Sky Sports: “He’s now at Dortmund. So, after he was signed, one year before (Ten Hag’s appointment), there were issues.
“We have had issues all the way through. So, you can make out his stay here at Manchester United so far is not a success.
“Now he’s going back to Borussia Dortmund, so I wish him the best of luck. I hope, we hope, he’s doing very well there, he will be successful and then we will see what is going to happen.”
Asked if there would have been a different outcome if Sancho publicly apologised, Ten Hag added: “Yeah, we have said that before.
“But I don’t want every time to return to that point. He knows what he should do and we have made that clear.

The United boss also revealed he had problems with Sancho ‘all the way through’[/caption]“It was also so clear and obvious about his performance, so let’s stop this discussion. He is to Dortmund and we wish him the best of luck.”
Sancho made his comeback for Dortmund on Saturday, coming off the bench in a 3-0 win away to Darmstadt.
The 23-year-old needed just 22 minutes to get an assist as he set up Marco Reus for Dortmund’s second goal.
He has returned to Germany after spending four years with the Bundesliga side prior to his move to United in 2021.
During his first spell, Sancho scored 50 goals and provided 64 assists in 137 appearances, as well as winning the German Cup.
Sancho made his Borussia Dortmund comeback on Saturday after returning on loan[/caption]After finalising his loan move in midweek, Sancho appeared to take a swipe at Ten Hag.
On rejoining his former club, he said: “When I came into the dressing room today, it felt like coming home.
“I know the club inside and out, I’ve always been very close with the fans here and I’ve never lost contact with those in charge.
“I can’t wait to see my team-mates again, go out on the pitch, play football with a smile on my face, assist goals, score goals and help qualify for the Champions League.”
Meanwhile, sporting director Sebastian Kehl added: “Even though he hasn’t played any competitive games in the past few months, we are sure that he will quickly settle back in with us, get into top form and use his qualities to help us achieve our goals for the season.”
