‘That is criminal’, rants Paul Scholes as club legend singles out Man Utd star for shocking blunder in derby defeat

PAUL SCHOLES lamented Casemiro’s role in Manchester United’s 3-1 defeat to City at the Etihad yesterday.

The Brazilian, 32, was unable to halt a second-half surge by the home side as they came from a goal down to win.

Phil Foden cancelled out Marcus Rashford‘s brilliant opener with a stunning strike of his own.

But it was the City star’s second that had Scholes tearing his hair out.

Appearing on Premier League Productions, the 49-year-old fumed: “Look at Casemiro getting one-two’d.

“The defensive holding midfield player, that’s criminal.

“The gap shouldn’t be that far and Casemiro, with the experience he has got, he shouldn’t be getting one-two’d in that position.”

Andre Onana also felt Scholes’ wrath for his role in Foden’s second, with the former midfielder adding: “The goalkeeper has to do better as well.

“It’s such a soft weak hand there. It’s not a hard shot.”

Scholes’ former team-mate Roy Keane took aim at Victor Lindelof‘s defending for Foden’s first.

The Swede, 29, was powerless to prevent the in-form England star from cutting onto his lethal left foot.

After the game Keane, 52, huffed: “United have a lot of players back here. I’ll be critical of the United defenders because they have the players back.

“But two or three players are just having a breather there.

“You’ve got Foden who we’ve seen do that many times this season cutting in and the players are just having a breather for that split second.

“You can’t do that against Foden! We’ve seen that before.

“When there’s a left-footer cutting in like this people say it’s dangerous but when you’ve got bodies in there this is where you’ve got to switch on.

“You’ve gotta get out to the ball! You’ve gotta get out to Foden! We’ve spoke about an amazing player. He wants to get onto his stronger foot. Get out to him!”

Man Utd registered just three shots during the entire game, with Rashford’s rocket their only attempt on target.

Only once have they ever mustered fewer shots in a match, when they managed just two during a 4-0 defeat to Liverpool in April 2022.
