‘That’s stupid’ – Rory McIlroy leaves commentator speechless with ‘silly’ shot that ‘shouldn’t be allowed’

RORY MCILROY left a commentator speechless after performing a shot that was branded ‘stupid’ and ‘silly’.

McIlroy, 34, was competing in the Players Championship in Florida, USA, when he had a tough shot to contend with.

However, the golfing artisan that he is, McIlroy managed to pull out an outrageous shot in the second round to get himself out of trouble.

His shot saw him get onto the green while even skipping over a lake after being hit under trees.

The shot prompted cheers from the crowd.

One of the Sky Sports commentators was also left impressed with the incredible hit.

They said: “That’s stupid. No, no that’s silly.

“It shouldn’t be allowed.”

Dame Laura Davies also claimed on co-commentary that it was one of the best shots you will ever see.

Fans appeared to be in agreement online, with one saying on social media: “Outrageous!!!”

A second said: “That’s one of the greatest golf shots I’ve seen by Rory McIlroy.”

McIlroy is currently second in the PGA Tour, but trailing by nine shots in Florida.

He is nine under par, while leader Xander Schauffele is currently -17.
