He has not played competitively since pulling out of the Genesis Invitational in February through illness as he continues to manage his comeback from ankle surgery.

And with just over a week to go until the first round of the 2024 Masters tees off, Woods is said to be going the extra length to boost his chances.

A friend of the golfing icon told the New York Post: “He’s focused.

“He’s working really hard in the gym. He’s eating right.

“He’s even eliminated sex.

“He does that now when he’s preparing: no sex until the tournament is over. He doesn’t want anything to take away his focus.

“The Masters is Tiger’s must-play event every year.

“He’s working very hard, spending hours in the gym, practising, taking care of himself. He wants to play, and he always plays to win.”

Footballers, F1 drivers and boxers have often been put under sex bans – either self-imposed or by managers – in the hope it will bolster performance levels.

Woods is currently understood to be single after his acrimonious split from ex-girlfriend Erica Herman, who initially tried to sue the golf icon for £23million before dropping the case.

Woods also dated skier Lindsey Vonn following the divorce from Swedish model Elin Nordegren.

The couple were married for six years and had children Samantha and Charlie together but split up in 2010 after Woods’ infamous cheating scandal was exposed.

Woods – who has been putting in 4am gym sessions – is aiming to replicate his incredible win in 2019 at Augusta which took him to 15 major wins, three behind the all-time record held by Jack Nicklaus.

Last year, he was forced to withdraw after 54 holes as he struggled to cope with the physicality of Augusta – despite securing a record 23rd consecutive Masters cut dating back to his 1997 maiden win.

However, he flew to Georgia last week and played a round at the iconic course in the hope of being able to be competitive when the main event gets underway.

Woods is way down in the betting, with some bookies having him at 150-1 to win, with dominant world No1 Scottie Scheffler the clear favourite ahead of Rory McIlroy and LIV revels Jon Rahm and Brooks Koepka.
