However, Wolves star Pablo Sarabia flipped the game on its head as he netted an equaliser in the 91st minute before setting up Mario Lemina to score a winner six minutes later.

The result meant it was back-to-back defeats to Spurs after their unbeaten start to the Premier League was ended by Chelsea on Monday.

Postecoglou appeared in a down mood in his post-match interview with TNT Sports.

When asked if he could explain the ending of the game he gave a brutal assessment.

He said: “It is what it is.”

The Aussie then elaborated: “It is always a tough game here and Wolves were always going to come on strong.

“We probably ran out of legs at the end there, which is understandable as a lot of those guys haven’t played.

“They scored a couple of good goals so it is a hard one for us to take.”

Postecoglou had to make multiple changes to his team from the one that lost to the Blues earlier in the week.

James Maddison and Micky van de Ven were both ruled out with injuries and could be absent until the New Year.

While Christian Romero and Destiny Udogie were both suspended after seeing red.

Postecoglou selected the likes of Eric Dier, Ben Davies and Emerson Royal into the backline for game against Wolves.

However he admitted that they lacked match sharpness,

He added: “A lack of match conditioning played a part obviously.

“But Wolves are tough to beat and they came at us.”
