But Spurs chief Ange Postecoglou does have the option to permanently acquire his services should he take his fancy.

After teasing his arrival on social media, Spurs announced the signing of the 27-year-old – who will wear the No.16 shirt – on their official website.

An excerpt of a club statement read: “We are delighted to announce the signing of Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig, subject to international clearance.

“The Germany international will join the Club on loan until the end of the season, with an option to make the deal permanent in the summer.

“He will wear the number 16 shirt.”

SunSport understands Spurs have the option to buy Werner in the summer for a fee between the region of £13million and £17m.

Werner will be hoping his Chelsea form won’t follow him back to London.

The forward struggled during for consistency his time at Stamford Bridge following a £47.6m move from Leipzig in the summer of 2020.

The forward scored 23 goals and registered 21 assists in 89 appearances for the West Londoners, although he missed a heap of chances.

Werner has joined Spurs with a view to securing a spot in Germany’s Euro 2024 squad.

Injury and slipping down the pecking order has seen the striker only play 204 minutes this season.

And Leipzig sporting director Mario Gomez believes the move will benefit both parties.

The former Bayern Munich hitman said: “It’s a win-win for everyone.

“Germany benefits from it. We benefit from this because we get a player going.

“He will play regularly, that’s what Tottenham have conveyed to us.”

Werner could make his Tottenham debut on Sunday evening when Postecoglou takes his troops to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United.
