JAMES MADDISON reveals leaving Leicester after their relegation will scar him forever.

Maddison signed for Leicester from Norwich in 2018 where he quickly became a midfield star – contributing to their FA Cup success in 2021.

However the Foxes were relegated to the Championship last season when they picked up just 34 points.

Maddison, 26, called it quits after five seasons and made the move to Tottenham, but admits the relegation hurt him.

Maddison told talkSPORT: “It didn’t end how I wanted it to, I didn’t want it to end on that sour note.

“I think that will probably have scarred me forever to be honest. Not to go too deep but I didn’t want to leave on that note, that sour note of relegation.

“Just because I think so highly of the club, it’s almost like a bit of a pride hit for us players as being the players who took Leicester back to the Championship which isn’t nice.

“But listen, we’re professionals, we get on with it, we dust ourselves down, this is my new journey.

“Touch wood, fingers crossed Leicester can come straight back up.

“I think they’ve got a really good chance to do so and I really hope they do, it’s a fantastic club.

“But yeah, Tottenham’s my club now, blinkers on, onwards and upwards.”

Maddison contributed 55 goals and 41 assists during his time at Leicester and will be a great miss for them in their fight back up to the Premier League.

He has already settled into life at Spurs featuring in their pre-season tour of Australia and Asia.

Maddison now believes he can help end Tottenham’s trophy drought.

He said: “If I didn’t think Tottenham could win trophies, I wouldn’t have gone there.”

Spurs’ last piece of silverware came from a League Cup win back in 2008.

But they came very close in the 2019 Champions League final where they lost 2-0 to Liverpool.
