Tottenham transfer exit for Davinson Sanchez wrecked by Russia’s war in Ukraine as Premier League fires warning

TOTTENHAM will have to prove to the UK government that Spartak Moscow’s money for the Sanchez deal has not come from a source hit with sanctions due to the war with Ukraine.

The wantaway centre-back has been in talks over a £13m move to Spartak, but Spurs could be hit with a legal issue if they pursue the deal.

While Prem chiefs are ready to tell Tottenham they would prefer them to avoid a controversial transfer, they do not have the power to stop the move.

It comes after sanctions were placed on Russia amid the ongoing war in Ukraine, which saw a massive escalation in early 2022.

These sanctions included the freezing of Russian assets in the UK.

This consequently saw the operations of Chelsea all but frozen due to them being owned by Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich.

Abramovich was initially banned from selling the club before Todd Boehly purchased the Blues for £4.25billion.

With Premier League bosses wanting clubs to avoid doing business with Russian teams, it makes the Sanchez transfer unlikely even though he has also yet to agree to the switch.

Sanchez, 27, has been at White Hart Lane since 2017, joining from Ajax in a £42m deal.

He only made eight starts last season after falling out of favour due to poor form and looks set to be sold.

There has also been interest from Real Betis, Sevilla and Galatasaray.

The Colombian has played 205 times for the North London side.
