That was the rallying cry from Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou following his side’s 4-3 victory over Manchester United in the Carabao Cup.

Once again, Spurs made life harder than it needed to be with their own unique brand of self-destruction.

Tottenham cruised into a three-goal lead before the break only to concede twice in seven second-half minutes to tee up a grandstand finish.

They survived, and now have themselves a place in the Carabao Cup semi-final in addition to successive wins with nine goals scored in the process.

Tottenham won this exact fixture 2-1 last season thanks to a 90th minute Joel Matip own goal, but the odds are stacked against them without Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.

And aside from last year’s win, this is not a fixture they’ve thrived in.

Liverpool have lost just two of their last 23 Premier League games against Tottenham (W15 D6) and have scored at least once in each of their last 17 against Spurs – not ideal when the hosts have kept just one clean sheet in their last 23 Premier League home games.

Spurs have also lost nine of their last 11 Premier League games against sides starting the day top of the table, with both exceptions coming away against Manchester City.

As for leaders Liverpool, maximum points will ensure that they are top of the Premier League table at Christmas for the first time since 2020/21.

Arne Slot’s side dropped points against Fulham in their last league match, although did so playing with ten men for the best part of 75 minutes and still finished the game with more possession and a higher xG.

There’s little doubt in my mind that Mohamed Salah will get on the scoresheet this weekend, and perhaps bag his third brace in his last four top-flight matches.

The Egyptian, 32, has scored 16 goals in 23 appearances and has been directly involved in 22 of Liverpool’s 31 Premier League goals this season (71%). He also boasts an outstanding record in this fixture having netted 12 goals and provided two assists in 20 appearances against Tottenham.

Carded

Yves Bissouma has been something of a bookings magnet this season having registered eight cautions in 19 matches in all competitions.

The 28-year-old will be crucial in preventing a flying Liverpool attack in transition, so a tactical foul or two is almost guaranteed. He’s averaging at least one foul per match and has more league yellow cards than any of his Tottenham colleagues.
