It’s 13th vs 14th as Manchester United travel to north London for Sunday’s Premier League encounter against Tottenham.

And by kick-off time, that could even read 15th against 16th.

Normally at this stage of the campaign, these sides are fighting for European qualification.

However, both now find themselves scrapping it out for a top-half finish with cup competitions their primary focus.

Following defeats to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup and Aston Villa in the FA Cup, Spurs’ hopes of silverware rest solely on winning the Europa League.

That will have to happen if Ange Postecoglou is to back up his comments about “always winning things” in his second season in charge.

But for that to happen he’ll need to keep his job, and for that to happen – he’ll need to improve Tottenham’s league form.

Spurs are sat in 14th position with 27 points from 24 league outings – leaving them closer to the relegation zone than the European qualification places.

However, there are perhaps reasons to be cheerful for Ange Postecoglou and his side.

Spurs are unbeaten in their past four Premier League games against Manchester United (W2 D2) and they will be looking to complete the league double over the Red Devils for the first time since 1989-90.

Postecoglou is also unbeaten in all three of his Premier League games against United, who are themselves in something of a crisis.

Since Ruben Amorim took charge of Manchester United in November, only five sides have picked up fewer points in the Premier League (14).

Amorim is only the fourth United manager to lose seven or more of his first 13 top-flight games in charge.

He did enjoy a brief reprieve thanks to Harry Maguire’s controversial offside goal against Leicester in the FA Cup, but he remains under pressure and successive league defeats would only heap more scrutiny on the Portuguese.
