And now, according to online Russia newspaper MASH via MMA weekly, he has now had his bank accounts seized by tax authorities.
It comes after the Russian allegedly racked up sizeable tax debts said to be worth over £2.4million ($3m).
Nurmagomdeov has diversified into business following his retirement.
But it seems these ventures have not been very successful.
The news also comes just days after police in Russia‘s Dagestan region raided a fight club linked with Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, the father of Khabib, over a hunt for suspected supporters of a terrorist cell.
Rumours of a possible return to the Octagon for Nurmagomedov began surfacing earlier this year.
Footage emerged of him in the gym while he was also spotted with former coach Javier Mendez.

He told MMA Junkie: “I know they connected with Ali.
“But I told Ali, last, maybe one year (ago), I said, ‘It doesn’t matter who calls you, but never call me about a fight.
“We have a deal: Directly with me, nobody connects. But I know with Ali, he connected with some people from UFC.”
