Under-fire West Ham boss David Moyes admits he is ’embarrassed’ by his players after Crystal Palace thumping

DAVID MOYES pointed the finger at his West Ham players for an “unacceptable” performance at Crystal Palace.

The Scot, who is out of contract in the summer and was short in response when asked about his future, accused his Hammers squad of lacking toughness and pride.

Sunday’s 5-2 drubbing at Palace follows a number of defeats where West Ham have been well off the pace this season, including a 5-0 loss to Fulham, 6-0 at home to Arsenal and a collapse from 3-1 up to losing 4-3 at Newcastle.

Moyes fumed: “The first half was as bad as I have seen us play.
“We have had three or four of these incidents this season, games very similar, where I could not believe the team.

“I don’t think he team in the three years I have been here have gone to the depths in the three or four games this year.

“The first half was unacceptable.

“We’ve lost lots of games and we have had some heavy-ish defeats as well but it’s not felt like the two or three we’ve had this year.

“I am giving no excuses whatsoever. The players got praised for their performance on Thursday night. But today was so bad I cannot put it into words.

“I am so disappointed for supporters who came in today and in truth I am embarrassed to sit here and be speaking on behalf of the team and the way they have performed today but I am the manager.

“I have got to say I have not had many teams who have played like that in my whole career.”

Moyes continued: “Maybe we’ve lost a wee bit of the tough culture that we’ve had.

“The pride in making sure that we didn’t concede and were hard to play against and difficult opposition. Today we were none of them.”

Asked if the humiliation at Palace would have any impact on his decision to stay or go, Moyes said: “No, nothing to do with it.”

When it was pointed out the decision may be taken out of his hands, the Scot added: “If it is, then it is. Fine. No problem”

Palace boss Oliver Glasner said: “Amazing performance and amazing win. The first half was nice to watch for me as a manager and everybody here at Selhurst Park.

“We were always in balance, they are one of the best teams in transition and we didn’t give them anything.”
