BURNLEY manager Vincent Kompany has been slapped with a two-match touchline ban.

The Clarets boss will serve one of his matches immediately while the second will be a suspended ban running until December 31.

Vincent Kompany has been handed a two-match ban following his red card during Burnley’s draw with ChelseaPA

Kompany has also been hit with a £10,000 ban by the FA after he admitted to breaching their rules regarding his touchline behaviour during Burnley’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea last month.

A statement on the Burnley website read: “Burnley FC’s Vincent Kompany has been fined £10,000 and suspended from the touchline for two matches following misconduct at their Premier League game against Chelsea FC on Saturday 30 March.

“One match is to be served immediately and one match suspended until 31 December 2024.

“The manager admitted that his language and/or behaviour in the 40th minute of the fixture was improper and/or abusive.

“And/or insulting towards a match official and/or questioned the integrity of a match official.

“An independent Regulatory Commission imposed his sanctions following a subsequent hearing.”

Kompany was shown red and sent to the stands in the 40th minute of the Chelsea match after the Blues were handed a penalty and Lorenz Assignon was dismissed for Burnley.

The gaffer’s subsequent reaction in his technical area is what has led to his punishment.

Cole Palmer‘s spot kick ultimately proved costly for Burnley who missed out on two more valuable points when the game ended as a draw.

Kompany made his thoughts on the refereeing clear after the game came to a conclusion when he labelled the officiating as “not good enough” in a post-match interview.

He said: “I’ll keep saying what I think, I’m not shying away from it and I’ve said it to the referees themselves, the officials, refereeing hasn’t been good enough this season.

“And I have said that in, I think, a constructive way, understanding as well the fact it’s not easy for them. The scrutiny is massive, the pressure is bigger than it’s ever been on the officials.

“I think the addition of VAR and more opinions and more officials doesn’t make it easy for them to do their jobs.

“I haven’t got any issues with being fined. I just want it to be right.”

Burnley will now be without Kompany for their head-to-head with Brighton on Saturday as they head into the crunch part of the season and battle to stay afloat.

With just six games remaining, Kompany’s side are six points off safety and have opportunities to pick up some valuable points against fellow relegation scrappers Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United.
