Two fans poured onto the pitch and across the wicket, with one chasing the other with a bat.

The individual being chased instinctively picked up one of the stumps as he ran past and tried to keep his attacker away from him.

He then ran back across the wicket and avoided someone trying to stop him, all the while a dog ran around the pitch.

The bat wielder then finally decided to quit his chase.

Police are investigating the incident and Connah’s Quay have released a statement on the matter.

It read: “There was an incident and we are appalled at the actions of the individuals responsible. They are not club members nor do we know who they are.

“We absolutely condemn this behaviour. However this will not take away from the positive influence that we have with our community with our thriving junior section. The support that we offer to our affiliated charities and friends in other sports clubs in the area.”

A North Wales Police spokesperson said: “We were made aware of an isolated incident at the Connah’s Quay Cricket Club on Saturday, July 20.
