HEARTS hitman Lawrence Shankland caught and ate a PIE thrown at him by a furious Hibernian fan in the Edinburgh derby.

A penalty from the Scotland international – who has been the Jambos’ star man this season – denied the visitors victory at Tynecastle on Wednesday night.

Shankland levelled the scores in front of the travelling Hibees, some of whom disgraced themselves by throwing objects at the 28-year-old.

One of those objects was a pie, which Shankland caught with his right hand and took a bite of before throwing back the way it came.

The clip went viral and quickly became the talk of footie fans, with one saying: “Is there anything this man can’t do?”

Another said: “Amazing.

And another said: “That’s f***in’ slick.”

One remarked: “Don’t know what’s more impressive: the fact someone got a pie to reach and was on target or the fact he caught it.”

Another jokingly chimed in: “Stadium ban needed for wasting a pie.”

Hearts boss Steven Naismith, however, didn’t see the funny side and branded the few fans who hurled objects Shankland’s way as “idiots”.

Hailing Shankland’s composure, the former Gorgie star: “The calmness that I spoke about, that’s exactly it.

“The wait he had before the penalty and then the calmness to find the net, these are the defining moments in these games.

“But all the stuff getting launched on, it’s just not acceptable.”

Naismith, 37, fears Scottish footie bigwigs could reduce the number of away fans for future derbies as a result of the incident,

He said: “I think if that then gets looked in, what’s going to happen is they’re just going to reduce the amount of fans that get in the stands.

“And that’s going to impact what is a good atmosphere, it’s a good derby.

“It’s a good rivalry, it’s just idiots that’s going to spoil the party for everybody.”
