With RVB holding a 3-0 lead, Bully Boy pulled out a nine-dart leg to close the gap.

However, the celebrations from 33-year-old Smith were quite muted – perhaps owing to the score.

Reacting on social media, one fan said: “The most tame 9 darter of all time.”

A second said: “Walk off as casual as when I hit a 26.”

Even Smith poked fun at his lowkey reaction on social media.

Taking to his Instagram story, he joked: “I remember when I used to be good.”

However, some fans also picked up the reaction of 56-year-old Van Barneveld, with the Dutchman appearing to barely acknowledge the nine darter.

One fan said: “No congrats from Barney is extremely harsh.”

A second said: “Barney just totally ignores it.”

Another said: “Good bit of respect from Raymond there.”

Van Barneveld went on to win the game 6-3.

Afterwards he sealed wins over James Hurrell and Gary Anderson to make the final where he took on Stephen Bunting.

But Van Barneveld had clinical precision in the final and stormed to an 8-1 win over the in-form Bunting.
