WAYNE ROONEY is considering a shock career change from football to boxing, reports suggest.

The Manchester United and England legend has tried his hand at coaching and management since retiring from the beautiful game.

However, his most recent job at Birmingham saw him sacked at the start of January following a dismal run of results over his 15 games in charge.

Now Rooney could be set to make a huge career switch to Misfits Boxing.

According to the Mirror, the 38-year-old has held talks with the promoter of KSI’s influencer boxing series, Kalle Sauerland.

The report says Rooney is “weighing up his options” while he waits to see what other coaching gigs can be offered to him.

Roo is an avid boxing fan.

Back in 2015, The Sun exclusively revealed a video of Rooney sparring with United team-mate Phil Bardsley at his home before he was sparked out on his kitchen floor. You can watch the exclusive video above.

Roo then fittingly celebrated scoring in his next game with a triple-punch knockout celebration against Tottenham.

In 2007 Rooney walked out with Ricky Hatton for the Manchester fighter’s clash with Jose Luis Castillo in Las Vegas, USA.

It is not the first time United’s record scorer has flirted with entering the boxing ring, having previously messaged Eddie Hearn and jokingly asking the promoter to set up a fight for him.

Like Hearn, social media sensation KSI has revealed Rooney has text him in the past over a potential fight.

Speaking in 2022, he said: “It’s funny – I hope he doesn’t get annoyed that I said this – but Wayne Rooney hit me up being like, ‘Oh, we should fight.’

“And I said no. I just don’t want to do that. If Wayne Rooney is down, of course I think it would be good to have him in this space.”

KSI has also welcomed the idea of Wayne Bridge entering the Misfits ring after Peter Crouch tipped the former Chelsea and Manchester City star as an “animal” in the ring.

Misfits have pulled in millions of viewers thanks to some huge blockbuster names being on their fight cards, including KSI and Logan Paul.

Rooney, however, may prove to be the biggest of them all, given his status as a global icon of football.

How Rooney v KSI might look on paper

Since being sacked by Birmingham, Rooney has returned to Old Trafford with his family, where he took a snap with darts sensation Luke Littler.

SunSport exclusively revealed earlier this month how Rooney was keen to join Steven Gerrard in the Saudi Arabian football revolution.

The Everton icon has been seen holidaying in Dubai with his family in recent weeks.

His other management roles in football include positions at DC United and Derby.

Meanwhile, the Rooneys are set to make a fly-on-the-wall style documentary covering the Wagatha trial and his Birmingham sacking.

Rooney’s wife Coleen saw a Disney+ documentary – Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story – show her side of the High Court libel clash with Rebekah Vardy.
