Templegate’s Welsh Grand National runner-by-runner guide

IWILLDOIT

JUST do it. Won this in race in 2021 from 13lb lower and fit from hurdles run. Rider’s 7lb claim gives him a chance and he loves this challenge.

COMPLETE UNKNOWN

STAMINA Unknown. Good form at 2m5f but didn’t stay in Coral Gold Cup which is a worry.

THE BIG BREAKAWAY

BIG say. Shocking form since his excellent second in this last year but this test brings out his best. Makes mistakes but place claims again especially if rain comes.

THE GALLOPING BEAR

BEAR with him. Loves a marathon and may bounce back from blip at Uttoxeter latest. Lightly-raced but creeping up weights.

NASSALAM

NASS has gas. Powered home to win trial for this here last time. Excellent 3lb claimer in the saddle and shapes like he’ll stay. Major player on any ground.

CHAMBARD

HARD Bard. Back to best with Becher Chase win and stays. Only a 4lb penalty which makes him a player for in-form yard.

IRON BRIDGE

TOUGH Iron. Crying out for a stamina test like this and needed his comeback run. Best on soft so rain would help. Place hope.

TRUCKERS LODGE

LODGE a bid. Back to best winning London National and has placed in past two runnings of this. Still on a fair weight.

ONLY THE BOLD

BOLD to back him. Been hurdling and more to offer as staying chaser but this looks tough.

AUTONOMOUS CLOUD

CLOUD cover. Improver who has been winning at lower levels and stays. Can find more to figure.

ICEO MADRIK

ICE cold. Struggled for a while and hard to fancy in this.

SUPER SURVIVOR

SUPER chance. Big gamble after good run at Lingfield latest. This test will be ideal and there’s more to come from a low weight.

AMATEUR

AM out. Fair form at lower levels but doesn’t look up to this.

CHARLIE UBERALLES

UBER booked. Won decent pot in Sept and should stay. More to come but this looks tougher.

WAYFINDER

WAY to go. Good second to Nassalam here latest and stays. Rain would help but a good outsider.

BLADE RUNNER

BLADE blunt. Solid stayer at lower levels, likes it here but needs more against these.

MAX DYNAMO

MAX not a factor. 22lb higher than win here in Feb and not shown much since.

DOMAINE DE L’ISLE

DOM gone. Slow stayer who is down the weights but has been struggling for a while.

DIDERO VALLIS

DID not. Yard flying but recent form looks very modest.

NOT SURE

SURE Not. Bits of form in lesser races but needs to raise game.

Templegate’s Welsh Grand National tip

NASS has enough gas to win the Coral Welsh Grand National.

NASSALAM won the trial brilliantly earlier this month and has more to come.

Chambard, Super Survivor and The Big Breakaway can fill the places.
