Selby was about to take a shot when he picked up a disturbance in the crowd.

Having pulled away from the table, the 41-year-old then pointed out the incident to the referee.

The referee was then heard saying: “Can we get some space there please?”

Selby then returned to his seat as the spectator was seen to.

The BBC then cut its broadcast back to the studio.

World Snooker Tour (WST) released a statement on the incident.

It said: “A spectator has been taken ill in the crowd.

“Play will resume at 2:15pm.”

Spectators returned to their seats at that time before play resumed.

Selby was winning the game 2-1 in frames.

However, Higgins was 12-0 ahead in the fourth frame.

Higgins went on to win the frame 57 – 34 to level the score.

The other quarter-finals in the Welsh Open today will first see Jackson Page go up against Luca Brecel.

Meanwhile, Ali Carter will face Joe O’Connor and Jack Lisowski will face Stephen Maguire, both at 7pm.
