WEST HAM are preparing a bigger offer to land Harry Maguire.

Hammers boss David Moyes has made the Manchester United defender one of his top priorities in this window.

After having an initial £20million approach rejected this summer, SunSport understands the club are ready to improve on that bid to bring Maguire, 30, to East London.

West Ham are in talks over an agreement on wages which works for all parties following Maguire’s recent salary increase after United’s Champions League qualification.

Maguire is out of favour at Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag having recently been stripped of the captaincy and made just eight Premier League starts last season.

The central defender – who arrived in Manchester from Leicester for £80m in 2019 – will want to be playing first team football next campaign with next summer’s Euros approaching.

Moyes wants more depth at centre back to accommodate Kurt Zouma’s injury issues, and Maguire could form a good partnership with fellow ball-playing defender Nayef Aguerd.

Maguire’s team-mate Scott McTominay is also a target for Moyes as he continues to strengthen his midfield with Ajax’s Edson Alvarez on his way to the London Stadium – a direct replacement for £105m departure Declan Rice.

West Ham have been in talks with United over McTominay, 26, for several weeks and could eye a double swoop should an agreement be found with Maguire.

Scotland international McTominay has fallen down the pecking order at United following Mason Mount’s switch from Chelsea and Casemiro’s prominence in Ten Hag’s plans.

They have a tough run of games including Chelsea, Brighton, Manchester City and Liverpool in their first six outings.
