It is set to be a huge tournament for Mighty Mike, who is currently ranked No 2 in the world and is among the bookies’ favourites, but has not won the top prize since 2019.

What is Michael van Gerwen’s net worth?

Michael van Gerwen has an estimated net worth of around £6million and is currently No 2 on the list of the top earners in the sport.

According to the PDC Order of Merit – which is the total prize money won by players over the last two years – Van Gerwen is in second, with winnings of £1,107,250.

He trails only reigning world champion Michael Smith (£1,271,250), who beat him in last year’s final.

Along with the prize money he gets for winning tournaments, Van Gerwen enjoys a host of endorsement deals.

Van Gerwen, 33, is sponsored by a number of companies in the UK and Holland including Leyland Trade, dartshop.tv, Keuken Concurrent, Van Mossel Automotive and XQ Darts Max.

The Dutchman recently revealed he is set to add to his car collection – which includes a £250k Rolls-Royce – if he wins a fourth world title, although the vehicle will not be another sports car.

Who is Michael van Gerwen’s wife Daphne?

Daphne van Gerwen (born Govers) met the darts star in his native Netherlands.

The former hairdresser is a keen darts fan and follows her husband around the world.

Michael van Gerwen tied the knot with his wife in 2014, the same year he won his first PDC World Championship.

What Surgery did Michael van Gerwen Need?

Ahead of this year’s tournament, the Dutchman also revealed he needed major dental surgery – with more coming up once it ends.

He said:“I haven’t even finished yet. I’m not even halfway through.

“I’ll have an operation in which they’re going to break my upper jaw and lower jaw. Put them right on each other.

“Then it’s all about recovery. Two years more in a brace. Then I’m about finished.

“Between the first operation this year and the second one, there has to be a minimum of one year.

“It’s because my upper jaw is a lot smaller than my lower jaw. My underbite is over a centimetre.

“Even a slice of ham, I cannot even bite properly. And because my upper jaw is too small also you get less oxygen through your nose.

“That creates headaches. Less sleep. Things like that.”

How much does the winner of the PDC World Darts Championship get?

Prize money for the 2023/24 tournament is as follows:
