DUTCH darts legend Raymond van Barneveld is in the middle of a resurgence.

The five-time world champion is into round 3 of the PDC World Darts Championship and looking to set up a mouth-watering clash with new kid on the block Luke Littler – which would be the first time reaching round 4 since 2018.

Barney heralded a new age for the sport in continental Europe – currently maintained by fellow countryman Michael van Gerwen – when he landed his first world title in 1998.

But now having won the top prize five times and retired twice, he’s back doing it for himself – again fighting for the PDC crown at the Alexandra Palace.

RV8, 56, bowed out in 2020 on a real low, losing in the first round to Darin Young before missing the 2021 tournament having retired.

He reached round 3 last year, losing to Gerwyn Price, becoming only the second player to make 30 World Championship appearances.

His return to form has coincided with a proposal to 39-year-old British girlfriend Julia Evans in front of the Eiffel Tower in 2022, and subsequent marriage in Cyprus this September.

Although, Barney revealed his honeymoon is on hold until after the end of the tournament.

Julia has been a constant presence at Alexandra Palace since the pair got together and it has been no different this year.

What is Van Barneveld’s net worth?

The Holland hurler has an estimated net value of just around £5million, having first competed professionally in 1987.

The former world No1 earned around £33k a month before retiring.

Barney regained his professional tour card in February 2021 and has had a lucrative array of sponsorship deals.

He’s been connected to Target Darts, Bengi, Premium Wine House, IQ Select, EMHA, and Draaijer Turbo Service.

Barney is currently ranked outside the world’s top 25 based on the PDC Order of Merit, which also revealed he has taken home £210,500 in prize money in the last two years.

The winner of this year’s PDC event will pick up £500k – from a total prize pot of £2.5m.

If Barney loses in round 3 he will have earned a guaranteed £47,500 from this year’s tournament.
