JOE Westerman has been taunted by fans after a viral video emerged of him carrying out a sex act on a woman.

The disgraced rugby star was subjected to vulgar chants after it was revealed the woman in the video was NOT his wife.

Joe Westerman was subjected to a series of chants in February 2023Rex

What is the Joe Westerman chant?

In February 2023, Joe Westerman was controversially picked to play for Castleford Tigers after a video had been shared online of him performing a sex act in an alley.

As he took to the pitch in the match against Hull FC, fans were heard clearly chanting lyrics from the stands that referred to a crude sex act.

Fans could be heard chanting “sing when you’re r***ing, you only sing when you’re r***ing!”, before later singing “Joe Westerman, he r*** who he wants!”

The chants also included the lyrics ”where’s your Mrs gone?”

Boos could also be heard from the stands every time Westerman touched the ball in the opening stages.

On February 12, after the graphic footage went viral, Castleford fined Westerman and ordered him to carry out community service to educate young people on the effects of alcohol.

Two days later, on February 14, Westerman released a statement apologising to both his family and club.

In the statement, the rugby player said he was ”incredibly remorseful”.

He added: ”I have realised that I need to work on my decision-making around alcohol.”

Although the chant went viral originally, singing from the stands has died down in recent months.

Speaking on the topic, Castleford winger Greg Eden said: “It’s mad how he’s handled it. Stuff like that it takes a few weeks and then it’s all blown over, you might get the odd person shouting something.”

Who is Joe Westerman?

Joe Westerman, born November 15, 1989, in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, is a rugby league player.

He plays as a loose forward or second-row for the Castleford Tigers in the Betfred Super League and has won two England caps during a 13-year career in the top flight

Westerman has also played for Hull FC, Warrington Wolves, and the Toronto Wolfpack.

He married wife Lauren in 2014 at the luxurious Wood Hall Hotel and Spa, near Wetherby.

The couple share three children together.

After the embarrassing video, captured behind a Greggs bakery, went viral in February 2023, the Castleford Tigers player was kicked out by Lauren.

What has the Joe Westerman’s wife said about the video?

Days after the viral clip first emerged on social media, Westerman’s wife Lauren revealed that she had not spoken to him since he was caught performing a sex act on another woman.

At the time, the distraught-mum-of-three told The Sun she had been sent the video prior to it being circulated online.

She said: ”I’m thinking about our children at the moment.

”To be honest none of this has sunk in yet. I’m trying to process what has happened.”

Following the incident, Lauren spoke out denying she was the woman in the sex act clip.

She also told friends that her husband had been begging her for forgiveness.

She said: ”I never imagined this would ever happen.

”He’s text me a few times to say how sorry he is but he knows that there’s no coming back from what he’s done.

”I now have to think about my children and begin rebuilding our future together. It’s daunting, but he’s got no one to blame but himself.”

Lauren added: ”There’s no way you can come back after something so horrific.

”It is one trillion per cent finished.

”What kind of example would I be setting to my children – particularly my girls – if I were to give it another go?

”I want them to know that this is not alright, that it isn’t acceptable behaviour in a relationship and that we all have self-worth.”

Lauren also opened up on how Westerman’s sex tape shame had destroyed the family they had built together.

In an exclusive interview with The Sun, the mum-of-three told how his almighty fall from grace began after the player went on a 15-hour booze binge.

It started at 11.30am on Saturday in the pubs and bars of Pontefract, West Yorks, took in the grim alleyway and ended at 2.30am the next day.

Lauren told The Sun ”I’ve relived that footage over and over again.

”It’s something I’ll never be able to get out of my mind no matter how hard I try.

”There are absolutely no excuses for what he’s done, not just to me but to our children and wider family.

”Everything between us was fine, he FaceTimed me at 4pm on Saturday while he was out and then texted at 2.30am to say he couldn’t get in because he didn’t have his house keys.

”I was staying overnight at my mum’s house and he texted the next morning to say how rough he felt, but that was it.

”There was no inkling of what was to come.”

She continued: ”Later that night, Joe was at our neighbour’s house and he said, ‘I need to talk to you’.

”His face just dropped and he looked totally different. He said, ‘I’ve done something last night . . . I’ve been videoed with a girl with my pants down’.

”I asked to see the video and he said he didn’t have it but that it was on Twitter.

”I went on to Twitter and saw it had been deleted and deleted loads of times and then about half an hour later it was posted again and that’s when I saw it.

”I just felt physically sick. My next thought was for my 14-year-old daughter and whether I could get to her before she saw it.

”But it was too late. She kept being added to these Snapchat groups from school and being sent the video.

”She left the groups but kept being added to more and it was sent to her again and again and again.

”Our nine-year-old was also sent a screenshot of the video in messages. That’s their dad and I feel so sorry for them that they’ve had to see something like that.”

Lauren added: ”Truth is, he only told me because it was on social media.

“But I’m glad it was found because the thought of kissing him after that just makes me feel sick.”

Following their split, in August 2023, the disgraced rugby star revealed that he had found love once more with real estate agent Alison Hopkins.
