‘What’s funny about that’ says Luke Humphries as darts ace in awkward exchange with snooker star Shaun Murphy

DARTS star Luke Humphries was involved in an awkward exchange with snooker ace Shaun Murphy after suggesting a nine-darter is harder to achieve than a 147 maximum break.

Humphries and Murphy were among the stars competing in Paddy Power’s Perfect Challenge.

Two darts stars, two snooker stars and two golf stars went head-to-head in an attempt to settle an age-old debate – what is harder, achieving a hole-in-one, scoring a 147 break, or nailing a nine-darter?

Reigning world darts champion Humphries claimed that for a novice, a 147 would be the most challenging feat.

However, he suggested it would be a nine-darter for a professional sportsman.

The world No1 said: “If you give someone a set of darts, a snooker cue and a golf club, I think they would do the hole in one first, nine-darter second and 147 last. That would be harder.

“But to a professional, snooker players know all the angles.”

Former world snooker champion Murphy could be heard laughing in the background before saying: “I didn’t know you were a comedian. A 147 is harder than a nine-darter.”

Humphries replied: “What’s funny about that? Did you hear what I said though? I said when you’re a professional and you know all the angles, in my opinion, you make it look easy.

“In frames to legs of darts, you have more 147s than nine-darters.”

Murphy then said: “Well, that does not make it easier.”

The awkward exchange came to an end when Humprhies quickly responded: “I didn’t say it was easier.”

The 147 break was the only feat to be achieved during the challenge, with Murphy scoring it.
