When is Andy Murray retiring from tennis?

Andy Murray is planning to retire from tennis after the Olympics 2024 in Paris.

However, on June 22, 2024 Murray had a back surgery after his match against Jordan Thompson at Queen’s and it is still not clear if he can play at the Olympics or Wimbledon 2024.

He said about his retirement plans and surgery: “There’s obviously a lot going on with me planning on finishing at the Paris Olympics.

“When I had the injury at Queen’s and then had the subsequent scans and doctor’s appointments, it was a pretty difficult situation to be in. I knew I was going to have to have the surgery.”

Maybe it’s my ego getting in the way but I feel that I deserve the opportunity to give it until the very last moment to make that decision.

Andy also mentioned that he wants to have the chance to see ahead of his Wimbledon game if he can play or not.

He said: “Maybe it’s my ego getting in the way but I feel that I deserve the opportunity to give it until the very last moment to make that decision.

“It’s complicated, and it’s made more complicated because I want to play at Wimbledon one more time. “

Why is Andy Murray retiring from tennis?

Andy said in an ATP interview: “Last year, I wasn’t planning on it being my last year on the Tour.

“I wanted to come back and play again.

“Whereas this year I have no plans to do that.

“It’s coming to the end of my career and I want to have that opportunity to play here again.”

However, it is not clear yet if he is retiring this year or not.

He told The Sun: “All of the discussions and conversations that I’ve had with my team are that I’m not going to play past this summer.

“Obviously I’ve had the conversation with my family. and I have a family holiday booked the week after the Olympics.

“I’m not planning on going over to New York. But then I also don’t want the last time that I played on a tennis court to be what happened at Queen’s either.”
